I have 30 years of experience providing individual, family, and couple, counseling, services to adolescents, adults, and elders.
As a dually licensed Mental Health Counselor, and Chemical Dependency Clinical Supervisor, I utilize an integrated treatment approach that addresses the interactive and synergistic relationships that exist between co-occurring and stand-alone psychiatric illnesses, substance use disorders, process addictions, and other co-occurring concerns (i.e., Acquired/ traumatic brain injuries; Intellectual/ development disabilities; medical illnesses; physical disabilities, and Chronic pain).
In addition to being dually licensed in Rhode Island. I am also licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts. My education includes a Doctorate degree in Health Administration, a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Counselor Education with Mental Health Option, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.
While I am trained in a variety of treatment modalities, the actual counseling approaches utilized during sessions are drawn from a mix of evidence-based and emerging best practices and are selected based on the nature of the issue(s) being addressed, and each client’s stated preferences and counseling goals. The overall treatment philosophy is trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, strength-based, client-centered, and adapted to each client’s level of readiness to change. The interventions utilized throughout the course of treatment are neuroscience informed, and based upon a trans-diagnostic/transtheoretical understanding of the myriad of factors that contribute to a person’s thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses to the intra-psychic phenomenon, interpersonal relationships, and lived experiences. I welcome the opportunity to meet you and to help you address the issues and/ or symptoms that are causing you concern and distress.
