Thank you for visiting my bio page! My hope is that I can work together with my clients to help them achieve a sense of peace and contentment. I provide a comfortable, safe, non-judgmental space where all are able to feel welcome and comfortable. I am a licensed mental health counselor, who has over twenty years of experience working the human services field. I have enjoyed working in many different settings, with all ages of the lifespan. I received a bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies from The University of Rhode Island. I hold a master’s degree in counseling and a Certificate of Advance Graduate Study in counseling from Rhode Island College. I am a member of Windwalker Humane Coalition, and a certified pet therapy facilitator. However, my certified therapy pet, Nala is currently in retirement.
Although I welcome all ages, I specialize in working with children, adolescents and teenagers. My approach is primarily Rogerian/person centered therapy. This means that I will strive to assist my clients grow and achieve fulfilment through unconditional positive regard and empathetic understanding. I also like to incorporate holistic ideals; taking into account a person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness techniques, play therapy, narrative therapy, music, art and relaxation exercises are often applied as well.
Clinical experience includes helping those with parenting challenges, academic advocacy needs, disability struggles, tic disorders, including Tourette Syndrome and PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections), ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, blindness and low vision challenges, grief, pet loss, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance abuse, co-dependency, life transitions, stress, ADHD, PTSD, trauma, sexuality, and low self-esteem.
